Elliott’s Injury Blow:

Harvey Elliott’s season has been hit by a harsh blow, as the 21-year-old Liverpool midfielder is set to miss at least a month due to a fractured foot. The injury occurred while on duty with England’s U21 squad, a major setback as Liverpool faces a congested fixture list in the coming weeks.

Elliott had been aiming to capitalize on the international break to gain more game time, having logged just seven minutes under new head coach Arne Slot this season. However, discomfort during training prompted his early return to Liverpool for medical evaluation, where scans revealed a foot fracture that will likely sideline him until late October.

This injury represents a significant obstacle in Elliott’s quest to secure a regular spot in Liverpool’s starting lineup. His absence comes at a critical juncture, ruling him out of key fixtures, including the League Cup tie against West Ham and several important Premier League matches. Liverpool are heading into a busy period where they play 7 games in 21 days, a period in which Elliott would have surely been utilised as Slot attempts to manage game time in what is set to be a fixture-heavy season for the Reds.

Last season, Elliott was a pivotal figure for the Reds, featuring in 53 games across all competitions, tallying four goals and 11 assists—a level of involvement that makes this setback particularly untimely. Yet, the club remains hopeful that the injury won’t have long-term issues.

Luckily for Slot, Alexis Mac Allister’s injury concern does not seem serious as he played 26 minutes in Argentina’s game against Colombia. Additionally, Curtis Jones has returned to full training and new signing Federico Chiesa has sued the international break to build up his fitness, meaning Liverpool should not be too limited in the midfield and attacking departments.
